Newly elected Directors
at Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation
At the Annual General Meeting for the Northside Foundation elections were held for two open positions left vacant by Valerie Baxendale and Thom Irvine who both retired from the board. Elected were Ron Collins and Heather Bennett. Both Heater and Ron are active in their communities and Heather is currently assistant terminal manager for Marine Atlantic while Ron is retired. The Foundation includes 15 members from the local area who are chosen for their commitment to the community and their ability to inspired the support of others.
"These are both exciting and challenging times for the Foundation as the need to update medical equipment and improve services at both hospitals is paramount to providing the best health care possible for our community," says chair Daniel McKeough. "On behalf of the Board, I wish to thank our donors for their continued generosity and much appreciated support over the years."
The Foundation is currently seeking support for these two very important pieces of equipment:
1. Navigator GPS Control Unit- $46,000 - This equipment would be a major advance for patient care as it will allow surgeons to remove specific lymph nodes in cancer treatment without performing a full lymph node removal. This will significantly reduce the pain and risk for the patient.
2. KTP Laser - $35,000 – This equipment will be used by the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Specialist to remove small cancer spots that are not amenable for excision by scalpel or CO2 laser. It will also be valuable in other types of ear surgeries at Northside General Hospital.
Currently the Board is in the planning stages for the 2011 Lights for Health event which is one of the largest and most successful fundraising events hosted by the Fiundation and a Ladies Night Out event by What Women Want and Rollies Wharf.
